Eilean Donan Castle   (7 miles)

This is Scotland's most photographed castle and possibley the most romantic?  The castle was built by King Alexander 2nd to give protection from the Vikings.  It was abandoned after it was destroyed in 1719, and the rebuilding took place between 1914-1949, it was at this time the arched bridge was built to link the island with the shore.

The Kintail Lodge Hotel   (1 mile)

With a traditonal Pub, this is an ideal place to meet the locals and sample local ales and malts.  Bar food available.

There are 23 Munros and 9 Corbetts in the area with shorter leasurely walks for not so adventurous people.

 

Battle Ground    (5 miles)

This Jacobian battle took place in 1719 after Eilean Donan Castle was abandoned. It is said to have only lasted a few hours.
